Driver Runs Stop Sign, Kills Pedestrian in Queens


QUEENS, NY – A 63-year-old man was killed while crossing the street at Gates Avenue and Onderdonk Avenue on Friday, according to the NYPD. The pedestrian, identified as Kwok Cheung, was struck by a vehicle driven by 21-year-old Raymond Mersier at around 3:15 p.m.

According to police, Mersier allegedly ran a stop sign and hit Cheung as he was crossing at the crosswalk. Mersier remained at the scene and was taken into custody. He has been charged with multiple violations, including failure to stop at a stop sign and failure to yield to a pedestrian.

Cheung suffered severe head trauma and was taken to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries.
