BALDWIN, LONG ISLAND, NY – A driver has been arrested on a drunk driving charge in connection with a deadly car accident on Long Island last week, police said.
Nassau County Police issued a news release on the incident that occurred May 3 in the area of Grand Avenue and East Carl Avenue in Baldwin.
Detectives said two vehicles were involved in a collision at the intersection at about 5:15 a.m. One driver, a 66-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver, a 31-year-old woman, was taken to an area hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
The woman, identified as Jinaraya E. Khan of Baldwin, was subsequently arrested for the accident. She was charged with DWI and second-degree vehicular manslaughter. Police said she will be arraigned when it is medically practical.
Grand Avenue was shut down in both directions between Carl Avenue and Demott Avenue while the scene was being cleared and investigated.
