QUEENS, NEW YORK – A driver was hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle on a highway in Queens late Monday night, the New York Post reports.

The incident took place on the Cross Island Parkway near an exit for the Long Island Expressway.  According to police, a man was headed north on the parkway in a Ford Escape when he collided with another vehicle at about 11:40 p.m.

The first driver, a 20-year-old man, got out of his car following the incident.  An off-duty paramedic driving a Volkswagen stopped to help.

At that point another vehicle, a white BMW, struck the Volkswagen and caused it to move forward.  The Volkswagen then pinned the 20-year-old between that car and the Ford.  The man was transported to an area hospital, where he was listed in critical but stable condition.

Police said the driver of the BMW exited their car and fled the scene on foot.  The hit-and-run driver is still being sought.
