SOUTH OZONE PARK, QUEENS, NY – A driver was critically injured when his sport utility vehicle crashed in Queens Monday night, according to WABC.
The accident happened on Rockaway Boulevard near 111th Street in the South Ozone Park area at about 11:30 p.m. Police said a 32-year-old man was driving a Honda Pilot eastbound at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the SUV. The vehicle collided with a parked unoccupied tractor and then slammed into a wooden utility pole. The pole snapped and the SUV split into two pieces, with part of the vehicle landing down the block.
The driver was not wearing a seat belt at the time and was ejected from the Pilot. A neighbor rushed to the scene and came to the man’s aid until paramedics could arrive. The driver, whose name was not released, was taken to Jamaica Hospital in critical condition but was expected to survive. No other injuries were reported.
The NYPD is investigating the cause of the wreck.
