NEW YORK, NY – A routine traffic stop on the Long Island Expressway turned into a car chase around 8 PM on Monday night. Police pulled over 24-year-old Mikhail Davis for driving in the truck only lane of the expressway.
When asked for his license and registration, Davis sped forward into the left lane of the Queens-Midtown Tunnel. Weaving through the right and left lanes of the tunnel, he side-swiped five vehicles. He only stopped because his right tire was torn off when he made it to the middle of the tunnel.
Of the twenty people in the five cars Davis hit, only three were injured, including his girlfriend who was in the passenger side of his BMW. She was sent to the hospital with a broken ankle.
Davis told authorities he didn’t stop because he didn’t want to be arrested for driving without a license and driving an unregistered vehicle. Ultimately, he was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment with a motor vehicle, reckless driving, fleeing an officer and driving an unregistered vehicle.
