Driver charged with DWI after car and truck involved in fatal Bronx collision

BRONX, NEW YORK, NY – New York City police have arrested the driver involved in a fatal collision between a car and a truck in the Bronx early Saturday morning, the Daily News reports.

The accident happened in the Hunts Point section of the borough at about 4:15 a.m. Police said 19-year-old T’Andre Hatcher was driving an Infiniti Q50 sedan when his vehicle collided with an 18-wheeler in the vicinity of Manida Street and Oak Point Avenue.  The sedan was crushed underneath the tractor-trailer.

A passenger in the Infiniti, 20-year-old Frankely Nunez-Payano, was pronounced dead after being transported to Harlem Hospital.

Hatcher, a resident of Chesapeake Virginia, now faces multiple charges stemming from the accident, including vehicular manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, and driving while intoxicated.  The crash remains under investigation by the NYPD.

Nunez-Payano lived on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, where friends and relatives wrote messages and lit candles inside his apartment building on Sunday.
