Driver charged in Rockland County car accident that killed teenager

NEW CITY, ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY – A teenage driver is facing criminal charges following a deadly car accident in Rockland County Thursday night, according to the Rockland/Westchester Journal News.

The crash involved three vehicles, and happened in the area of 256 Congers Road in New City just before 11 p.m. A passenger in one of the vehicles, a Mitsubishi Lancer, was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead the following day. He was a 16-year-old boy who was a student at North High School. Another passenger, a 17-year-old girl, was seriously injured and also hospitalized.

The 18-year-old driver of the Mitsubishi, Alan Mendoza, was arrested on multiple charges, including aggravated vehicular homicide, second-degree manslaughter, and driving while intoxicated. He was arraigned and remanded to jail while awaiting a court date.

Officials in the Clarkstown school district released a statement that read in part, “”There are no words to express the pain and sense of loss to our community as a beautiful young life was taken from us.”
