SOUTH OZONE PARK, QUEENS, NY – A driver is facing charges in connection with a crash that injured a young boy in Queens Thursday afternoon, according to amNY.
The NYPD and FDNY responded to the scene at the intersection of Lefferts Boulevard and Rockaway Boulevard in the South Ozone Park section of the borough after the incident occurred shortly after 3 p.m.
The 10-year-old boy was reported to have been struck by a vehicle while he was walking through a crosswalk. He was transported to Long Island Jewish Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.
The driver of the vehicle involved was identified as 68-year-old Nasser Essa. He was subsequently charged with leaving the scene leading to a serious injury and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. Police said Essa attempted to flee the scene of the crash but was quickly arrested.
The NYPD is continuing its investigation into the accident.
