BRONX, NY – A man is under arrest in connection with a fatal pedestrian accident that occurred in the Bronx last week, WCBS 880 reports.
Police were at the scene of the incident Thursday in the area of Burke Avenue and Bouck Avenue in the Laconia section of the borough. They responded at about 12:30 p.m. following a 911 call of a pedestrian struck.
When officers arrived, they found a woman with serious injuries. The victim, identified as 51-year-old Elizabeth Wolmart, was pronounced dead after being transported to NYC Health and Hospitals/Jacobi.
The NYPD said its investigation showed that Wolmart was crossing at the intersection when she was struck by a Mercedes Benz SUV that was making a left turn from Bouck Avenue onto Burke Avenue.
The driver of the SUV, identified as 32-year-old Zavee Georges, stayed at the scene and was arrested. He faces charges of failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to exercise due care.
The incident remains under investigation by the NYPD’s Highway Collision Investigation Squad.
