MANHATTAN, NY – A driver crashed into an Uber vehicle on Monday night, causing the Uber to spin into a restaurant’s outdoor seating area, and injuring three.

The collision occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m. on August 24. NBC 4 New York reports that a black Cadillac SUV crashed into an Uber driver’s white sedan, as the Uber was driving on East 92nd Street near 2nd Avenue. The force of the crash caused the sedan to spin out of control and collide with the outdoor seating area at Delizia’s pizzeria.

During the accident, restaurant patrons ran to escape the oncoming vehicle. However, two customers sustained minor injuries from the collision. The customers’ injuries were treated on the scene, and they did not require additional medical care.

The Cadillac driver sustained moderate injuries from the accident. Medics transported the driver to a local hospital for treatment. The Uber driver reported that he was uninjured, despite significant damage to his vehicle.

At this time, the police have not released whether either driver will face charges for the accident.

This restaurant collision is one of several reported over the past months, while restaurant owners can only offer outdoor seating during the COVID-19 pandemic. Delizia’s owner stated he will increase the amount of protection between his customers and the street. He indicated that he may start using his own car as a protective shield against oncoming traffic.
