WEST HEMPSTEAD, LONG ISLAND, NY – Authorities say a speeding driver died after losing control of his car and crashing on a Long Island highway Monday night, according to Newsday.
The accident happened on the Southern State Parkway in West Hempstead at about 8:30 p.m. According to police, 27-year-old Jeffrey Laroche of Springfield Gardens, Queens attempted to change lanes while driving an Infiniti westbound at a high rate of speed. The vehicle hit a center median guardrail between Exit 18 and Exit 17, then struck some trees before ending up in the far left lane of the roadway.
The vehicle overturned and Laroche was ejected. He was pronounced dead at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park.
Three passengers in the car were injured in the accident. 21-year-old Jayda Moultrie of Hempstead, who was in the front seat, was extricated from the vehicle and hospitalized. She was expected to survive. Two passengers in the rear seat, 20-year-old Nicole Walter and 18-year-old Nathaly Walter, were also taken to area hospitals. Nicole suffered a broken pelvis while Nathaly’s condition was not disclosed.
Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the accident. Anyone with information about what happened was asked to contact New York State Police at Troop L Headquarters.
