KIRYAS JOEL, NEW YORK, NY – New York State Police say a child died after being struck by a truck in Orange County on Monday afternoon, according to the Hudson Valley Post.

The incident occurred just after the victim, a 4-year-old boy, had gotten off his school bus in the village of Kiryas Joel at about 3:50 p.m.

State police from the Monroe barracks responded to the scene and conducted a preliminary investigation into the incident. They determined that the driver of a meat delivery truck traveling on DA Weider Boulevard turned left into the driveway entrance of an apartment complex.  After entering the complex the truck hit the boy, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The truck driver, whose name has not been released, was interviewed after the accident by state troopers.  They found that he showed no signs of impairment, and at this point, no charges have been filed in the case.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the tragic accident.
