BRONX, NY – The New York Police Department is investigating a fatal accident involving a box truck and a cyclist in the Bronx.

According to NY Daily News, the incident occurred on Thursday, June 11th at approximately 5:00 p.m. The cyclist was traveling north on Park Avenue near East 138th Street in Mott Haven when he was hit by the truck.

A 20-foot long freightliner was exiting a commercial garage when the truck’s back tire struck the cyclist. Police believe that the truck driver did not see the cyclist as he was exiting onto Park Avenue.

The driver remained at the scene after the accident to render aid to the 38-year-old cyclist. Unfortunately, he could not be saved, and the police pronounced the cyclist dead at the scene. The NYPD has yet to release the victim’s name.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
