MASSAPEQUA PARK, LONG ISLAND – Police say a suspected drunk driver was arrested in connection with a deadly wrong-way accident in Nassau County early Sunday morning, according to Massapequa Patch.
The crash happened on Sunrise Highway near Park Boulevard in Massapequa Park. Police said 29-year-old Juan DeLeon Collado of Freeport was driving westbound in a 2003 Honda CR-V when he crossed over into the eastbound lanes. The CR-V collided with a 2002 Honda Civic head-on.
A 24-year-old man who was a passenger in the Civic was declared dead at the scene. A 28-year-old man driving the Civic was hospitalized with leg and hip injuries. A passenger in the CR-V, a 29-year-old man, was transported to a hospital and was listed in critical condition.
Collado, who was also hospitalized, was arrested at the scene of the accident. He now faces multiple charges, including second-degree manslaughter, second-degree assault, second-degree reckless endangerment, and driving while intoxicated. Arraignment was pending.
