BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, NY – Authorities are investigating a tragic accident in Brooklyn Monday afternoon that left a 7-year-old girl dead, according to the New York Daily News.

The incident occurred in the Bath Beach section in the area of Bay 23rd Street and Bath Avenue at about 4:10 p.m. Police said the victim, Sama Ali, was riding her scooter across a street when she was hit by an armored truck that was making a turn.

Sama died of her injuries after being transported to Lutheran Hospital.

The driver of the truck, operated by the GardaWorld Corporation, stayed at the scene after the accident. He told police he did not see the girl and at this point investigators do not believe there was any criminality involved.

Sama was with her family and friends after a visit to a local park when the incident occurred.

GardaWorld said it has deployed an accident response team that will handle the company’s internal investigation into what happened. The company released a statement saying it was “deeply saddened by the news”, and expressed condolences to the girl’s family and friends.

According to News 12 Brooklyn, activists are calling for a closer look at the safety of streets in the neighborhood where the crash happened, following several recent injuries to pedestrians.
