4-year-old dead, mother arrested after Suffolk County car accident


FLANDERS, LONG ISLAND, NY – New York State police said a 4-year-old girl has died from injuries suffered in a crash Jan. 13 in which her mother was behind the wheel, according to Newsday.

This is an update to a previous story.

The child passed away at Stony Brook University Hospital, where she was transported following the accident on Flanders Road in Flanders. The 4-year-old’s mother, 34-year-old Amy Wesolowski, was driving a Toyota RAV4 when she collided with a Volkswagen Tiguan driven by 29-year-old Sonya Fezza of Water Mill.

Neighbors and a local animal control officer rushed to the scene to try and rescue and resuscitate the little girl. Wesolowski and Fezza were both taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment and were later released.

Wesolowski was arrested following the accident and now faces multiple charges, including driving while ability impaired by drugs, aggravated DWI with child, and endangering the welfare of a child.

State Police are continuing their investigation into the crash and asked anyone with further information about what happened to contact them.
