LEVITTOWN, LONG ISLAND, NY – Two women were injured when a pickup truck crashed into a bus stop where they were waiting on Long Island Wednesday, CBS2 New York reports.
The accident, which was captured on surveillance video, happened at a bus shelter on Hempstead Turnpike in Levittown at about 12 p.m. The pickup truck had just exited the Tri-County Shopping Center and was making a right turn. The driver-side door was seen swinging open as the vehicle veered out of control and struck the passengers who were sitting waiting for a bus.
One of the women was reported to have been pinned under some debris before being extricated by a group of good Samaritans who came to her aid. The two women, ages 45 and 18, were seriously injured and taken by ambulance to an area hospital.
The pickup truck driver remained at the scene and there was no immediate word on whether he would face any charges. Nassau County police are continuing their investigation into the crash.
