BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, NY – Two pedestrians were hospitalized after they were struck by a vehicle at an intersection in Brooklyn late Friday night, CBS New York reports.
The incident, which was captured on surveillance video, happened in the area of Franklin Avenue and Putnam Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant shortly after 11 p.m.
A woman identified as 50-year-old Omme Farhana was walking in a crosswalk across Franklin Avenue with her uncle when they were both struck by a white sedan that went through a red light. Farhana ended up on the car roof before being thrown to the ground. The vehicle continued on, hit a pole and then crashed into a gate, where it was abandoned.
Four men who were inside the vehicle fled the scene and are now being sought by police. Two of those believed to have been in the car were seen on video running towards Franklin Avenue.
Farhana will have to undergo multiple surgeries as a result of her injuries. Her uncle has been released from the hospital.
Farhana was walking home from her job at a restaurant when the accident occurred. One witness, James Feng, described the crash to CBS New York and was quoted as saying, ““Screeching tires and all of a sudden, a loud bang, a loud crash, and I looked out my window. As soon as I looked, all the doors just swung open. Four people just ran out. Two went up one way, two went the other way.”
It is suspected that the car involved in the incident may have been stolen. The vehicle was towed away from the scene.
