2 motorcyclists killed in accidents on Suffolk County roadways

YAPHANK, LONG ISLAND, NY – Suffolk County Police said they are investigating two separate fatal motorcycle accidents that occurred on Monday.

The first incident took place in the area of Sills Road and Express Drive North shortly before 5 p.m. Police said 32-year-old David Acevedo of Hampton Bays was riding a Suzuki motorcycle north on Sills Road when he went through a red light and crashed into a Mercedes Benz SUV going west on Express Drive North.

Acevedo was pronounced dead at the scene. The Mercedes Benz driver, 47-year-old Eva Konopka of Brooklyn, sustained minor injuries and was taken to Long Island Community Hospital in Patchogue for treatment.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks.

The second crash happened on Rocky Point Yaphank Road between Whiskey Road and Route 25A in Rocky Point at about 9:35 p.m. Police said a man was driving a Suzuki motorcycle southbound on Rocky Point Yaphank Road when he lost control of the vehicle, drove off the roadway and collided with a tree.

The motorcycle rider was pronounced dead at the scene.  His name was not released.

The motorcycle was impounded for a safety check.  Anyone who may have witnessed the crash was asked to contact Suffolk County Police Seventh Squad detectives.
