2 injured when crash sends school bus into Long Island dry cleaners

MERRICK, LONG ISLAND, NY – A crash involving a school bus on Long Island Monday afternoon left two people injured, according to a report by WNBC.

First responders were at the scene on Merrick Avenue at the intersection with Benson Lane in Merrick after the incident took place at about 12:30 p.m. Police determined that the school bus collided with a pickup truck, and the impact sent the bus crashing into Merrick Park Dry Cleaners.

A pedestrian was pinned against the building and was transported to a hospital in critical condition. The bus driver was also hospitalized with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening. No students were on board the bus at the time of the accident.

Two workers inside the building managed to scramble to safety, witnesses said. The building was reported to have sustained extensive structural damage.

Police are trying to determine the cause of the initial crash.
