Two SUVs were involved in the collision on Middle Country Road in Lake Grove at about 2:30 p.m. Suffolk County Police said 40-year-old Andreia Gaynor of Farmingville was driving a Chevrolet Traverse west on Middle Country Road when she attempted to make a left turn into a parking lot just before Hawkins Road and crashed into an eastbound Nissan Rogue.

There were five children in the Traverse. Two of them, ages 3 and 7, were taken to Stony Brook University Hospital in critical condition. Gaynor and the three other children were hospitalized with injuries that were not regarded as life-threatening.

The driver of the Rogue, 22-year-old Sungeethah Subramaniam of Selden, also sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Police impounded the two vehicles for safety checks. Anyone with information regarding the crash was asked to contact the Suffolk County Police Department’s Fourth Squad.
