JACKSON HEIGHTS, QUEENS, NY – Police said a young woman was fatally struck by a pickup truck in Queens Thursday afternoon, reports the Daily News.
The incident took place at an auto repair shop on Northern Boulevard near 107th Street in the Jackson Heights section. Police said a 16-year-old was backing out of the shop in a Ford F-150 when he suddenly hit the gas, accelerated forward and struck 18-year-old Sara Perez as she walked on the sidewalk.
Perez was pinned against a fence and was rushed by EMS to Elmhurst Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. Police said the accident happened around the corner from her home.
The driver remained at the scene and no arrests were immediately made. Police said the 16-year-old does not have a driver’s license. He was reportedly picking up his father’s truck from the auto repair shop at the time.
