BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, NY – Authorities in Brooklyn announced the arrest of a teenager in connection with a crash that killed three people on July 11, 2020, WNBC reports.
18-year-old Tamirlan Abylkhnov of Homecrest is facing multiple charges stemming from the incident that took place at the North 40th Runway in Floyd Bennett Field.
Investigators said Abylkhnov, driving his Toyota Camry at about 8:30 p.m., was racing with a vehicle driven by another teen and was doing donuts when he lost control of the Camry.
Abylkhnov’s car slammed into the other vehicle, a Kia Forte with four people inside. The 16-year-old driver of the Kia and two passengers, ages 18 and 11, were killed in the crash. The fourth person in the Kia was seriously injured. Abylkhnov and his two passengers suffered minor injuries.
Abylkhnov was indicted on charges that include three counts of criminally negligent homicide, assault, speeding and reckless endangerment. If convicted on the top count, he faces up to four years in prison.
He was released without bail following his arraignment and is due back in court next month.
