17-year-old driver killed when car collides with Nassau County bus

OLD WESTBURY, LONG ISLAND, NY – Police said a car and a bus were involved in a fatal collision on Long Island Wednesday afternoon, according to a report by Newsday.

Investigators said a 17-year-old male was driving a 2019 BMW south on Glen Cove Road near Hewlett Drive in Old Westbury when the accident occurred at about 12:52 p.m. The driver crossed a median and the BMW crashed into a northbound Nassau Inter-County Express bus that was out of service at the time.

The teenage driver was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The 63-year-old man who was driving the bus sustained minor injuries and was hospitalized in stable condition. There were no passengers on board the bus when the incident occurred.

A NICE Bus spokesman issued a statement saying that the company is cooperating with local authorities in the investigation into the crash.

WPIX reported the victim was a high school senior in Nassau County.
