17-year-old critically injured after being struck by vehicle on Staten Island

STATEN ISLAND, NEW YORK, NY – Police are searching for the driver involved in a pedestrian accident on Staten Island that left a teenager hospitalized, according to a report in the Staten Island Advance.

Police were dispatched to the scene early Sunday morning in the area of Bay Street and Prospect Street in the Stapleton section of the borough after the incident was reported at about 2:45 a.m.

Responding officers found a 17-year-old male who had been hit by a vehicle and suffered critical injuries.  NYPD investigators determined that the teenager was crossing Bay Street from east to west when he was struck by a dark-colored sedan that was heading north on Bay Street.

The victim was taken to Richmond University Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition.

The driver involved in the crash fled the scene going in an unknown direction, police said.

The incident remains under investigation by the NYPD’s Highway Collision Investigation Squad and so far there have been no arrests in the case.
