15-year-old girl killed when alleged drunk driver hits SUV on Long Island

WOODMERE, LONG ISLAND, NY – A driver was arrested after he was involved in a crash that killed a teenage girl in Nassau County Saturday night, the New York Post reports.

The suspect was identified as 34-year-old Arlin Javier Aguilera of Hempstead, Long Island. Police said he was driving a Dodge Ram pickup truck north on Peninsula Boulevard in Woodmere at about 11 p.m. when he struck an Audi Q5 SUV that was turning from Edward Avenue onto Peninsula Boulevard.   A 15-year-old girl who was a passenger in the Audi was pronounced dead after being taken to an area hospital.

The 38-year-old driver of the Audi was critically injured, while three other passengers in the vehicle were hospitalized with less serious injuries.  WABC reported the passengers were all teenage 10th-graders who went to the same high school in Far Rockaway, Queens.

Aguilera and a passenger in the pickup sustained minor injuries.  Aguilera was subsequently arrested on several charges, including second-degree vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated.

The 15-year-old victim was on her way home from a camp reunion at Camp Sternberg in upstate Narrowsburg, New York, according to the report.
