SAGAPONACK, NY – Police said a young boy was killed in an accident while riding his bicycle in Suffolk County Thursday evening, the Suffolk Daily Voice reports.
Southampton police responded to the scene along with first responders after receiving a call of the incident at about 5:30 p.m.
The initial investigation indicated that an 11-year-old boy was riding his bicycle on Town Line Road in the Village of Sagaponack when he was struck by a 2022 Ford Ranger pickup truck that was backing out of a work site.
Police, Easthampton Village Ambulance, Bridgehampton Fire Department, and Bridgehampton Volunteer Ambulance all attempted to render aid to the child, but he was pronounced dead later at an area hospital. No other injuries were reported.
Southampton detectives were conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident. The pickup truck driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigators. His name was not released.
