JAMAICA, QUEENS, NY – A car accident in Queens early Saturday morning left one person dead and five others injured, according to the Daily News.
The accident happened on 112th Avenue near Jamaica Avenue in the Queens Village section at about 4:10 a.m. Police said the driver of a Honda Accord was going at a high rate of speed when the car crashed into a pole. The Honda then hit a van that was parked on the street.
Three men and three women who were in the car were transported to area hospitals. One of the women, a front-seat passenger, was pronounced dead at Jamaica Hospital. Her name was not immediately released. The other five people were listed in serious but stable condition with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.
AMNY reported that the driver of the car, Gilberto Cordova, was arrested on charges of vehicular manslaughter and drunk driving. He was reported to be a resident of the area.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
