New Developments for Cancer Treatments

The recent move to open diplomatic and economic relations with Cuba has not been without controversy, and next in line may revolve around a promising lung cancer treatment. Previously, Americans were unaware of a major potential benefit for sufferers of lung cancer. CimaVax has not been available to Americans until this recent decision, despite a history of working very well in Cuba. Now, CimaVax might be one of the first major medical benefits from this deal.

CimaVax stands to be an inexpensive treatment for those suffering from lung cancer. Though it currently only improves prognosis by about six months, American researchers are now free to work with the basic drug and try to improve it. Though these improvements might be costly, anything that extends the life of lung cancer sufferers is extremely important, as the current prognosis is often very bad.

Lung cancer remains the primary killer cancer in America. The most common causes include:

  • Exposure to Radon gas
  • Exposure to asbestos
  • Exposure to smoking and secondhand smoke

As is made clear from the list above, many of the people who suffer from lung cancer do so at no fault of their own. Workplace exposure to asbestos and Radon gas has caused thousands of deaths over the years, and continues to do so, as many employers are still willing to expose their workers to these dangerous substances.

Though the hope is that new lung cancer breakthroughs, including CimaVax and offshoots of the drug, will be affordable for American patients, there is no guarantee. Oftentimes treatments for diseases are unaffordable for most people. If you or someone you love suffers lung cancer due to exposure to Radon gas, asbestos, or cigarette smoke, please don’t hesitate to contact an experienced attorney to help you seek the funds you need to pay to properly treat the disease.
