Drunk Driving Accidents: Powdered Death

As if alcohol abuse isn’t a big enough problem in America, a new product is going to make it even easier to get drunk. Palcohol, which was approved for sale by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau, sounds like an adult version of Kool-Aid. Just mix the powder into water and you have one of four drinks, including a Margarita and a Cosmopolitan.

Drunk drivers are always looking for ways to fool the authorities, and this product should make that much easier. Most states do not allow open containers in vehicles, because it can be difficult to determine whether the driver was in the act of drinking the open container or not. When the alcohol is in powdered form, this will become almost impossible.

The makers of the product claim it is to make life easier for hikers or other people who don’t want to carry heavy bottles of alcohol wherever they might travel. This is all well and good, but any new and exciting alcohol product is more likely to have an effect on young people and people with a substance abuse problem. Substance abuse is already a major problem in America, causing:

  • 700 billion dollars in crime, work related problems, and health care
  • Approximately 50,000 deaths a year by overdose
  • At least 10,000 deaths a year caused by driving under the influence

Congress has threatened to intervene to keep this potentially dangerous product off the market. Drunk drivers are already responsible for too many deaths and injuries every year. Making drunk driving more common would be devastating. If you or someone you love has been injured by a drunk driver, becoming politically active is a great way to push for change to keep others from being hurt as you were. Another great way to push for change is through the courtroom. Please contact a qualified attorney to help you push for change.
