Hon. Joseph G. Golia

Honorable Joseph G. Golia is Of Counsel to Finz & Finz, P.C. Judge Golia has served as a Judge for the New York State Supreme Court, the New York State Appellate Term and New York Civil Court. He is a former member of the United States Army Reserve and shortly after receiving his honorable discharge, Judge Golia began his legal career at the Hartford Insurance Group.

Prior to his tenure on the bench, Judge Golia served as the Principal Law Clerk to the Honorable Bernard Dubin. He has been appointed to the Advisory Committee of the Assigned Counsel Plan and the Guardianship Roundtable Committee and as an Educational Liaison of the 11th Judicial District for the New York State Judicial Institute Educational Committee. Judge Golia was also appointed to the Jury Board of the 11th Judicial District.

Judge Golia has a longstanding connection to New York’s legal community, having served as the former president and member of numerous judicial and bar associations, including the Association of the Justices of the Supreme Court of the State of New York, American Judges Association, Criminal Courts Bar Association, Supreme Court Justices Association of the City of New York, Queens County Supreme Court Justices Association, Corona Lawyers Club, Catholic Lawyers Guild of Queens County, District Attorney’s Association of Queens County, Association of Law Clerks to the Justices of the Supreme and Surrogate Courts, and the Queens County Bar Association.

Judge Golia has received numerous honors and awards for his distinguished public service. He received a Presidential Citation by former President of the United States Gerald R. Ford. He has been named as Judge of the Year by the Assistant District Attorney’s Association of Queens and the Columbia Lawyers Association 11th Judicial District and has been awarded the Distinguished Service Award by the New York Law School Alumni Association and the Republic of Italy.

Despite his illustrious career, Judge Golia’s proudest moments were when his daughter, Donna-Marie E. Golia, was sworn in as a New York Civil Court Judge, appointed by New York’s Chief Administrative Judge Lawrence K. Marks as the Supervising Judge of New York Civil Court (Queens County) and elected to the New York State Supreme Court.

In his spare time, Judge Golia enjoys collecting coins and stamps, however, he is most passionate about spending time with his family.
