When she opened the door he pushed his way into her hotel room against her will and attacked her. Her cries for help brought hotel staff to her room just in time. As a result of the incident she was severely emotionally traumatized and diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder.
An action was started in the Federal Court in Brooklyn, Eastern District of New York alleging that the perpetrator was negligent in becoming intoxicated which resulted in his abusive conduct. The defendant maintained personal insurance and after extensive litigation was forced to concede liability. Just prior to trial the action was settled.
