A New York City apartment building doorman became verbally abusive and physically threatening to our client over his sexual orientation. Our client, a 48-year-old man, reported the incidents to the landlord but no action was taken against the doorman. One day as our client returned to the building after taking his dog for a walk, the doorman began to taunt him and ultimately punched him in the face, breaking his jaw. The attorneys at Finz & Finz discovered that the landlord hired the doorman on a whim with no formal application filled out, no references contacted and no criminal history background checked. Due to the negligent hiring on the part of the landlord, the case was settled for our client for $250,000.
