Symptoms of Metallosis

The failure of Metal-on-Metal hip implants is now well established. Multiple manufacturers have recalled the devices, a clear acknowledgement that the devices are unsafe. A series of successful lawsuits against some of those companies have established that these implants were defective at the design stage, posing a serious health risk to anyone who received them from the moment they were conceived.
The process by which these implants fail is fairly simple. As the metal ball grinds against the metal socket, small metal flakes break off. These can cause inflammation in the socket, can enter the bloodstream and cause blood poisoning, and can be responsible for a variety of other dangerous health conditions.
If you have received a hip replacement, being aware of the symptoms of metallosis is important. Early diagnosis and treatment of metallosis is key to improving your longterm prognosis. Be sure you immediately report to your doctor any changes in your health. Symptoms to be aware of include:
- Compromised immune system resulting in recurring infections
- Fatigue and disinterest in previous hobbies
- Headaches, numbness in extremities, and other issues associated with problems with the central nervous system
Device manufacturers did patients a grave disservice by releasing these damaging products. Now, those who received a Total Hip Arthroplasty are tasked with constantly monitoring their own health and symptoms in case something goes wrong with their implant. This should not be the responsibility of the patient, but it falls to them after the medical establishment has let them down.
If you or someone you love received a defective hip implant, proper treatment and therapy is extremely expensive. It is important you hold the manufacturer responsible for developing and releasing a dangerous product. Please, retain a qualified and experienced attorney to help you with your case.
