Not All Car Accidents and Rear-End Collisions are the Same

August 28, 2015 | Finz & Finz, P.C.

There are a variety of different types of car accidents, including T-bone accidents, rear-end collisions, and head-on collisions.  Each of these are more likely to occur under certain circumstances, and knowing those circumstances can help you avoid being in an accident. Rear-end collisions are among the most common types of accidents, much more common than head-on collisions.  Rear end collisions occur at a variety of speeds and in a variety of circumstances, from high-speed highway accidents to the accidents that occur in parking lots.

The most common factors that increase the likelihood of a read-end collision occurring include:

  • Alcohol, fatigue, or anything that dulls reflexes, causing the driver behind you to brake too late
  • Weather, such as rain, snow, or ice, making it difficult to brake quickly
  • Tailgating, where the driver behind you is staying too close to your bumper, making it more difficult for them to brake in time
  • Pedestrians, animals, or other obstruction in the road that causes you to brake quickly

The vast majority of rear-end collisions are preventable if the driver behind you is following the law and the rules of the road.  Unfortunately, many drivers do not.  There are things drivers can do to make these types of accidents incredibly rare, particularly maintaining proper braking distance.  But many drivers are in a hurry, or are trying to intimidate you into driving faster, so they stay closer than they should.

If you or someone you love has been injured in a rear-end collision, please contact a qualified attorney to help you determine what factors might have played a role in your accident.  More likely than not the accident was entirely preventable, and there was no need for you or your loved one to suffer.  An experienced lawyer can help you hold the guilty to account for causing your accident.
