Train Accidents: Not Supposed to Be There
February 05, 2015 | Finz & Finz, P.C.
There was no compassion. There was no attempt at empathy. There was only a blanket statement that he wasn’t supposed to be there, that he wasn’t following the rules, as if those were the important things to talk about when a man was killed.
On January 18th, 2015, Work Out star Greg Plitt was trying to get just the right shot of a train when he was struck and killed north of Burbank, CA. There is an element of risk involved in filming high speed vehicles, and Plitt and his crew must have been aware of those risks. Sure, they didn’t file the correct paperwork to get permission to film, but to be as dismissive of his death as Metrolink spokesmen have been still seems incredibly harsh.
Celebrities aren’t the only people who encounter trains as part of their jobs. There are people who work on or ride on trains for a living, and there are millions of people who ride trains to and from work or for other reasons every day. Train safety is a very important thing.
Mr. Plitt’s death serves as a reminder of just how important it is that we are all careful around these types of machines. When encountering train tracks:
- Follow any posted safety precautions
- Never go around or under a safety bar or rail
- Minimize the amount of time you spend on the tracks, and spend no time on the tracks at all if you can help it
- Stand back from the train tracks when the train is approaching or leaving the station
Nobody should have to die to illustrate the importance of train safety, and no one’s death should ever be dismissed as their own fault when it was truly just a tragic accident. These types of things can happen to anybody. If you or someone you love has been injured or killed in a train accident, please contact a qualified attorney to help you explore your options. It is all too easy for people to dismiss injury or death if you don’t have someone help you hold the negligent to account.
