Off-Duty NYPD Officer Detained in Fatal Hit-and-Run Accident in Brooklyn

BROOKLYN, NY- Twenty-three year old Joanna Dixon, who was reportedly out celebrating her birthday before the accident, was killed in an early morning hit-and-run accident in Brooklyn. The crash occured at 5:00 a.m. on East 55th Street and Foster Avenue on December 9th.

According to authorities, a black Maza SUV that Dixon was riding in ran a stop sign and was T-boned by a black Nissan GT-R. 

The driver of the Nissaan, was off-duty NYPD officer Rohan Shaw. The driver of the Mazda fled the scene, leaving Dixon and another injured female passenger behind.

Both Shaw and the Mazda driver are suspected of driving while intoxicated. While authorities initially announced that Shaw would face criminal charges, including criminally negligent homicide, vehicular manslaughter, driving while impaired, and others, the process has been put on hold pending the investigation, according to ABC7 News.
