(LONG ISLAND, December 2019) - A two-month-old boy suffered critical injuries in a crash in North Patchogue on Saturday night. The child's mother, 33-year-old Deliela Gonzalez attempted to make a U-turn from the right lane on North Ocean Avenue in her Honda sedan, and collided with a Mercedes in the left lane.
Gonzales was driving with four children in the car, including two-month-old Jayden, a four-year-old, an eight-year-old, and a thirteen-year-old. Jayden was transported to Long Island Community Hospital before being transferred to Stony Brook University Hospital. He suffered a spinal cord injury, head trauma, and swelling in the brain, according to authorities, and his condition has not improved.
The other children and the mother were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Mercedes also suffered minor injuries in the crash.
Police are still investigating the accident, and we'll update this story with more details as they are released.
