Man struck and killed by car while helping teen fix car on Motor Parkway

ISLANDIA, NY- A 57-year man stopped to help an 18-year-old driver who had stopped on the side of the road on the Motor Parkway in Islandia on Sunday evening.
When walking to get tools to repair the young man's car, a passing 22-year-old driver then struck the 57-year-old man. He was killed upon impact. He has since been identified as Frederico Oviedo of Bay Shore.
The 18-year-old was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
