A 14-year-old cyclist was killed in a truck accident in Queens on Saturday. According to the Daily News, the victim was Mario Valenzuela, of Astoria. Valenzuela was struck while riding his bicycle on Borden Avenue under the Pulaski Bridge in Long Island City at 1:55 p.m.

Authorities believe the teen was riding alongside the truck when it made a turn on 11th street and he fell beneath the truck’s rear tires. The truck driver immediately stopped the vehicle, but EMS pronounced the teen dead at the scene.

The truck driver was not charged with anything at the scene, and he remained while authorities investigated the crash. This crash is the 21st cycling-related fatality in New York City this year, which is double the number of fatal crashes in all of 2018, according to NYC transportation advocates.
