Drunk driving education takes place in most high schools, targeting students who are not yet even old enough to drive to make it clear to them how unsafe this behavior is.

It isn’t only drivers who need to be nervous on New Year’s Eve. Actually, it isn’t even New Year’s Eve people should be worried about. Data from the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration details that it is actually New Year’s Day itself that is the most dangerous day to drive, mostly because the majority of drunk driving takes place after the ball drops.
There is no way to completely protect yourself either. You can call a cab to get you home, but the cab must still share the road with plenty of other drunk drivers. In larger cities public transportation is a possibility, but there are serious dangers involved in boarding a train or a subway after a night of partying. Even walking home is no good, as you still have to cross streets and hope a drunk driver doesn’t hit you.

It can be hard to learn a lesson just from watching the downfall of others. We always assume that we are somehow different, and that those same terrible things can’t happen to us. Sometimes you can’t avoid driving home late at night. Whether you or your group of friends have chosen to imbibe or not, driving home in a cab or with a designated driver after midnight is a common occurrence when one is out and about on the weekend. But, even when you are careful, there may be others on the road who are not. Night time is the time when most people are careless about getting behind the wheel. They fail to use their seatbelts. They fall asleep or become distracted by other devices while driving and speeding. During the month, weekends show a spike in accident activity as more people are out socializing and taking weekend road trips. A good percentage of those involved in accidents from speeding or drunk driving also fail to wear seatbelts.
