Amusement Park Accidents Mean Terrible Days Ahead

July 17, 2015 | Finz & Finz, P.C.

One terrible day for California amusement parks underlines just how dangerous these locations can be.  On June 12th, 2015th, three serious incidents made clear that amusement parks can be dangerous, not just for thrill-seekers but for park staff as well.

The three incidents, all of which occurred in Santa Clara, are clear proof that the element of danger these parks sell isn’t just an illusion.  Any time large machinery is involved, it is important that every safety precaution is taken.  Sometimes corners are cut, and people get hurt.  It was less than a year ago that a roller coaster car derailed at Magic Mountain in Santa Clara, injuring four last July.

Investigations are still underway regarding the three incidents on June 12th, which included:

  • A girl losing consciousness on a ride at Six Flags Magic Mountain; the girl passed away the next day
  • A staff member of California’s Great America park suffering traumatic injuries after being struck by a returning roller coaster car
  • A rider at California’s Great America park being taken to the hospital after suffering an injury

Theme parks seem like a great place to take a family on vacation, and the companies that run the parks always insist they are safe.  But incidents like these, especially when they happen on the same day, are proof that the safety record is often overstated.

If you or someone you love has been injured in a theme park accident, it is important you contact an attorney as soon as possible.  The theme park companies have a lot of money invested in trumpeting their safety records, and they will do everything they can to keep from giving you the compensation you are entitled to.
