Injuries on Black Friday

December 08, 2017 | Finz & Finz, P.C.

Thanksgiving marked the start of the holiday season, a time when families and friends come together in joy and harmony.  Delicious meals are served and quality time is spent over turkey and pumpkin pie.  The atmosphere is relaxing, away from work and other responsibilities.  Except these days, Black Friday actually starts on Thanksgiving Day in many cities.

Desperate for dollars, more and more stores have opened their doors on Thanksgiving Day itself, giving bargain hunters the opportunity to get an extra half day of shopping in.  But as the hours have grown crazier, so has the behavior.  Black Friday has been marred for years by violence, but this year it may have peaked in ridiculousness.

A fight broke out in a Birmingham mall late Thanksgiving night.  One person was injured in the fracas, which occurred at approximately 11 o’clock pm.  Such an incident is rarely newsworthy, as these types of incidents happen dozens of times a year across the country.  But this time, a person threw a shoe.

Throwing a shoe is ridiculous no matter what, but the shoe missed its target and went over the second floor railing, striking a baby on the floor below.  The baby was not seriously injured, but this only goes to show how quickly things can get out of control, and how an innocent bystander can be injured.

If you or someone you love has been injured while shopping, and you are not sure what legal avenues are available to you, please contact an experienced lawyer.  A qualified attorney can walk you through the process of filing and managing your case, and can help you obtain the compensation you are entitled to for your injuries.
